5 ELEMENTS

An enormous amount of Feng Shui practice is based upon the interpretation of the five elements as they move and interact with each other in several cyclical patterns within our environment /surroundings ie: creative, destructive, weakens and exhausts.

Understanding these cyclical patterns of the five elements enables a Feng Shui expert to integrate both your private belongings and particular individual symbolic elements into your homes and office to activate auspicious energy.

  CREATIVE

  DESTRUCTIVE
  Wood produces fire

  Wood destroys earth
  Fire produces earth

  Earth destroys water
Earth produces metal

  Water destroys fire
Metal produces water

Fire destroys metal
Water produces wood

 Metal destroys wood

WOOD – symbolizes the beginning of new life / or beginnings, expansion, and spring time. Wood represents strength and spreads its positive energies like the branches of trees stretching out into the sunshine for growth. It is a wonderful element to energize considering its positive implications. Wood represents the compass direction of East (Big Wood) and South East (small wood).
WATER - represents a very powerful element and you must always remember that even though we can not live without water, it too can be very destructive. Water is a yin element and is represented by dark colours such as blue and black. Water represents the compass direction of North. The element is water; the season is winter and is represented by wavy shapes.
FIRE – is the only element that must be created and is a yang element. It indicates success, potential, recognition and fame. This element is associated with the compass direction of South. Its season is summer and is anything triangular or pointed in shape. The dominate colours are red and orange.
EARTH – is the core of Feng Shui and is a yin element. Its powerful energy moves sideways and horizontally, and it assists with the changes of all seasons. The earth element is associated with South west (Big Earth) and is represented by the square shape. South west represents the Matriarch of the family. It also represents knowledge, education and wisdom rising in the North East (small earth).
METAL – has an inward flowing energy and will not bend. It represents prosperity and wealth. It is represented by the compass direction West (small metal), and round shapes. It also represents North West (Big Metal) which represents the Patriarch of the family.

The nature of these elements reacting with each creates balance or dissonance in your environment. This basic concept allows a Feng Shui consultant to correctly activate corners of the home to create harmony utilizing the concept of the 5 Elements on the Pa Kua.
