Eight Mansions is also known as the 8 House approach in Feng
Shui and is based upon space dimension of a dwelling. This
is one of the most popular formulas used in Feng Shui as it
determines good and bad locations in a home or office, whether
a resident is compatible with their house, finds lucky and
unlucky directions and how to enhance and naturalize the affects
of these directions.
Each dwelling in question is divided into eight sectors that
correspond to the eight magnetic compass directions ie: North,
South, East, West, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and Northwest.
From this analysis the practitioner will be able to locate
the sitting and facing direction of each residence. Each house
is then classified into two further groups (East Four or West
Four Group) purely based upon its sitting direction.
Then the formula requires the practitioner to calculate a
Kua number from each individual’s birth date and gender.
This will ascertain his or her four auspicious and inauspicious
locations/directions based on the eight magnetic directions
of a compass. Each direction is 45 degrees in angle and possesses
different types of energy that will influence the sector and
the person residing there in regard to their kua number.
Once this is calculated and the dwelling is mapped out with
the 8 compass directions, the next step is to ensure that
each individual is utilizing their good locations not their
bad and are facing their lucky directions not their unlucky
directions.
The practitioner will try and ensure that important rooms
such as dining, living, family, study and bedroom are all
located in good locations. However, areas such as toilets,
kitchens and maids room should be situated in the bad locations
in a dwelling. They will also ensure that you are sleeping,
eating and working in auspicious directions.
As 8 Mansions is based primarily upon space, compass directions
and Kua numbers an experienced practitioner may also suggest
the Flying Star Formula as it incorporate time dimensions.
